WE LIKE VERONICA FALLS

Veronica Falls combine everything that humans have grown to love about a pop song. Girls and boys sing in perfect harmony. The guitars jangle with a steady pace. The drums are simple, keeping everything moving. They use their voices as instruments with plenty of “oohs” and “ahhs” all over the shop. And the harmonies and melodies flowing through Veronica Falls songs are just brilliant and well executed. Nothing new so far, but ultimately everything that is essential to a classic pop song. Then, they add a few alternative slants, the obscure subject matter of love in graveyards and “beachy head”. Then they conjure up an air of mystery around themselves with the ghostly, ethereal edge to their sound. And as well as the fresh sound, their image is fresh to death. Rocking the smart casual look with added capes! CAPES! It may sound like just another one of those bands, because this scene and style of music is thriving at the moment. But there is no use trying to brush it aside, simply because Veronica Falls are making hummable and catchy guitar pop that takes inspiration from the past and does something a little new with it. Music is the biggest form of recycling, and recycling is good for the planet.

Releasing records on Trouble Records in the UK and Captured Tracks in the US, you can get your hands on some of their freakily good songs. They have played awesome support slots alongside Teenage Fan Club and The Drums. They are gathering an understandable buzz around themselves with features in NME about them, a profile on Guardian.co.uk about them and general internet approval.

QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION:

Are they romantic mix tape material?

YES. Whacking one of their songs on that special tape for that special someone would be a wise move. “Found Love In the Grave Yard” is sure to melt his/her heart.

Are they party playlist material?

YES. Be sure to drop “Beachy Head” to get some hips and hipsters shaking away! It’s got a certain urgency to it that is sure to make even the wall huggers shuffle a little.

Should you go and tell your friends?

YES/NO. You could tell your friends and let them in on the ‘soon to be no so secret’ secret of Veronica Falls and form a small fan cult for them OR you could keep them to yourself and hum their tunes as you walk down the street. Smug in the knowledge that they are only to your knowledge.
